About General Screening
Q. What kind of tests do you use for GT screening?
A. Katy ISD uses a variety of ability and achievement testing measures in the GT screening process. If qualifying test scores from within the last two school years are available, Katy ISD will use those.
Q. How can I prepare my children for the GT testing?
A. There is no need to “prep” your children for these tests. All you can do is keep them rested, make sure they have a good breakfast and try to keep them stress-free.
Q. Is there a quota?
A. No, there is not. Any student who meets the criteria qualifies for the program.
Q. When do the test(s) take place?
A. The test(s) occur during the school day. Students are responsible for all missed worked when they are testing.
Q. How does the attendance work during testing?
A. The facilitator informs the attendance office as to who they have and when they are testing. Should a "call out" be given due to testing, please allow one school day for clearing. You should also check HAC or Canvas before calling attendance.
Q. Will my child know when the tests are being given?
A. Yes, after the facilitator has made the schedule, students are given a testing notification letter prior to the start of testing. Students must keep this letter with them in a safe place.
Suggestions: Make a copy to keep at home. Also have your child take a picture of his/her schedule with their device.
Q. What if my child is absent from a test?
A. If a student misses a test due to illness or a doctor's appointment, he/she will be allowed a make-up test. A make-up schedule will be developed after the initial round of testing is completed.
Q. What if a test is cancelled because of unexpected school cancellation or facilitator absence?
A. The tests that were scheduled for that day will be made up at a later date (TBD) or they will be added into the make-up schedule that's developed after initial testing is completed.
Q. What if my student forgets to come to a test?
A. If a student forgets a test, he/she will be allowed to make up that test. A make-up schedule will be developed after the initial round of testing is completed.
Q. What if I don't want the testing to continue?
A. If you no longer wish to have your student screened for GT services either submit the form below or send an email to the facilitator stating that you wish to discontinue screening. Otherwise the facilitator will continue to screen your child. The child telling the facilitator that they no longer want to be screened will not be accepted.
